We are currently enjoying our spring break in Cancun, but took some time to write this up before we left. I feel like March flew by, but when I look back, there was actually a lot packed in. This life lately March 2026 post is a little catch-up on what we’ve been up to lately.
Books I’ve Read

- Mr. Cavendish, I Presume by Julia Quinn- A reserved earl unexpectedly falls for his lively, independent bride after a marriage of convenience. This was predictable, implausible, yet also entertaining, and cute. 3.5/5
- The Wandering Inn by prateaba– A young woman is transported to a magical world who starts an inn and builds a new life among adventurers, monsters, and unexpected friendships. This was free on audible. Since I haven’t read fantasy in ages, I tried it. I was surprised by how much I liked it! 4/5
- My Husband Next Door by K. L. Slater– Sylvie’s seemingly perfect new life unravels as secrets about her husband and past begin to surface. It was an interesting premise although I think parts could be improved. 3/5
- The Smart Girl’s Guide to Revenge by Jessica Mae Harper– a suspenseful story about a woman who, after taking the fall for a crime, is released from prison and sets out to get revenge on the husband who betrayed her. The perfect non-romantic chick book for spring break! 4.5/5
Recipes I’ve Made

- Cheddar and Bacon Dutch Baby– I haven’t made savory Dutch pancakes before. Good concept, not a great recipe. I think the recipe had too much flour in it. I would make a savory one again, but use a different recipe for the actual pancake.
- Garlic Parmesan Meatloaf– Yes! This was so good. I do recommend doubling it so it fills a bread pan. Matt said it tasted like garlic bread. We all fought over the leftovers.
- Dill Pickle Ranch Smash Chicken Tacos– Matt made these, and they were such a hit. We used high-protein taco shells and swapped Greek yogurt for sour cream to keep things a little lighter. The crunch from the shells was so good, and the flavor combo was really fun.
- Buffalo Chicken Sweet Potato Nachos– These were another easy one with minimal hands-on time. I love that you can sneak in extra veggies by grating zucchini into the meat—I added two instead of one, and no one noticed!
- Sheet Pan Pineapple Chicken Tacos– These were incredibly easy to throw together and the fresh pineapple on top added such a bright flavor. Those will definitely stay in our rotation.
- Smash Burger Bowl– Another big win. Everyone loved it, although next time I’ll definitely make extra potatoes because they disappeared quickly.
- Bulgogi Cheesesteak– These had great flavor, but I kept wishing there was a sauce to tie everything together. I might experiment with adding something creamy next time.
Currently

- Planting- I haven’t been planting anything yet since we are still in danger of night freezes. Normally I wait until mid May.
- Cleaning (spring)- I just finished going through all of the kitchen cabinets. I’d like to go through all of Claire’s out grown clothing in the basement to see what Avie can use and what the kids need for summer.
- Eating and drinking- It’s Starburst jelly bean season! Haha. We do enjoy a bag or two of those jelly beans.
- Reading and watching- Lots of good shows lately including High Potential, Lincoln Lawyer, and I’m looking forward to watching Company Retreat.
- Loving- My job makes me really happy, but there have been some heavy things going on this year. I love that we are in the final quarter and almost done.
- Family update

-
- Avie– Avie just started spring soccer. She is also doing swim for a few more months until the summer swim team starts. She was absolutely thrilled to be moved up a level on the team. Avie also sang with the children’s choir at church this month and did a fantastic job.

-
- Claire- Claire just started track and is finishing up the last month of rehearsals for the school musical. She is still doing long course swim season as well. It’s a lot to balance. She and her troop also wrapped up Girl Scout cookie season by selling out!!

-
- Me- I have 2 races coming up- in the same weekend! Claire convinced me to do a 5K on a Saturday and I am signed up for a half marathon the next day. It should be a fun challenge although I am not expecting any best times!
- Matt- It’s been a nice break of being a swim official this month! Although he has had to travel a bit more for work. Somehow he managed to avoid most of the travel chaos and still get our taxes done, too! He got us tickets for The High Kings at the end of this month where we all had a wonderful night of listening to some Irish music.

March Goal Recap
