Weekends are always good for the soul, but a girls’ weekend in South Haven, Michigan? Even better.

This charming lakeside town was the perfect spot for a getaway with Andrea, Jill, and Kathrine. With its walkable downtown, adorable shops, delicious food, and laid-back vibes, South Haven gave us everything we needed for a mix of fun, rest, and connection. And we did it while trying to keep our budgets in check.
If you’re thinking of planning your own budget-friendly South Haven girls weekend, here’s a peek into our itinerary and all the tips I’d recommend to make the most of it!
Where We Stayed

We rented a house just a block or two from downtown—the location could not have been more ideal. We walked to nearly everything and had the perfect mix of cozy evenings in and fun nights out. Bonus points for a hot tub and back patio!
Travel Tip: South Haven vacation rentals can book up quickly, especially in summer. Split a house with friends to save and stay central. There are camping grounds available if you want to save even more.
Thursday: Arrival + Pier Walks
Kathrine and I left around 1PM and met Andrea at the house by 5PM. We kicked off the trip with a homemade charcuterie board, protein pizza wraps, and a sunset walk to the pier to see the lighthouse. The downtown access was unbeatable, and it set the tone for a relaxing weekend.
Friday: Shopping, Taste Restaurant & Retro Vibes

Jill joined us early Friday morning, and we started the day with a homemade breakfast (shoutout to the rhubarb coffee cake and greek yogurt with rhubarb compote!). After some shopping downtown (why hello, matching pink pajamas), we had the BEST lunch at Taste. Think beautiful cocktails, amazing small plates, and stylish vibes.

Friday night we hit up Groovin Groove, a funky lounge with live music. Shelby Lentz was performing and she was incredible. If you’re into cocktails, retro decor, and singalongs with your besties—this is your place. Back at the house, we played Catchphrase and Cards Against Humanity over desserts and homemade blackberry brandy slush. A vibe!

Budget Tip: Plan one sit-down meal a day and make breakfast or apps at the house to keep costs down.
Saturday: Salt Caves, Shopping & Sunset Walks

After a morning run and a delicious sausage roll breakfast (thanks Jill!), we headed to the local farmers market. Cherry pie, cake pops, fresh fruit, flowers—you name it. We also found a fun veggie mural for outfit photos.

Then it was off to Salt and Soul Salt Cave, one of the most relaxing parts of our trip. For 45 minutes we sat in Adirondack chairs, snacked, sipped tea, and let salt lamps soothe our feet—10/10 for my plantar fasciitis.

After, we grabbed a patio lunch at Captain Lou’s and browsed a few more shops before resting up. It’s right on the water. Between the blue skies and beautiful breeze it was lunchtime perfection.

While we waited for our table at Clementine’s we enjoyed wine and apps on the back patio. Perks of having such a close house!

Travel Tip: Always have a backup plan in case of long waits—and don’t underestimate the joy of a comfy back patio.
Later that night we did facemasks (thanks Kathrine!) and soaked in the hot tub.
Sunday: Sweet Send-Off
Before heading out, we enjoyed a french toast casserole (bless you, Kathrine!) and one last cozy breakfast together.
We left full—of laughter, food, and memories.

The best weekends are the ones where you can be totally yourself. Whether you’re walking through antique shops, laughing until midnight over card games, or dancing to live music with lemon cookies in your purse (no shame), a girls’ trip like this one is worth every minute.
