Everyone has a bad day from time to time and, especially with all of the things going on lately, one can easily feel down or just plain ‘off’. While it is important to acknowledge your feelings and move through the experience, it is also important to not get stuck in a rut. Sometimes the only way to move forward is by doing something that puts you in a good mood. Here are 5 ways you can uplift your spirits!
Get some exercise in
This is always my #1 go-to. It always helps me feel more accomplished when I work out each day and definitely puts me in a better mood. Exercise is good for your health and it releases endorphins, the feel-good chemicals your body produces. So, put on your favorite workout outfit for that confidence boost and do your favorite workout! This is also a great time to try something new and fun, such as a dance class or yoga class. Even if it is just a walk around the block, getting movement in can quickly boost your mood.
Pamper yourself
A little extra self-care can go a long way. Take the time to pamper yourself and treat yourself to something you love. If you love to have your nails done, give yourself a mani/pedi. If you want some relaxation, take a luxurious bath with essential oils or Epsom salts and treat your skin with top notch products, like for example the face masks by Blue Lagoon Iceland to feel your best. Sometimes I even put a few drops of essential oils on the floor of our shower and the shower steam helps me relax so much!
Have a vent session
Take to a piece of paper and let it all out via a free write. Set a timer or write until you have gotten it all out. If you want to talk, a listening and supportive ear can also help you process your feelings! Sometimes I tell my hubby I need 5 minutes to vent and he just listens. Trust me, it helps so much!
Ground yourself and focus on the good
After a bad day it can be easy to stay focused on the negative. But don’t dwell! Take time to ground yourself through your favorite way of reconnecting. If you want to try something new, try deep breathing, meditation, spending some time in nature, and writing down 5 things that you are grateful for. Remember that a bad day is only one day, and there are better days to come!
Satisfy your sweet tooth
Sometimes a little something sweet can automatically lift your spirits! Treat yourself with your favorite sweet treat and satisfy your sweet tooth. Whether you want to rest and enjoy on your own or call a friend and share a sweet treat, food is sometimes all you need. And there are plenty of lower calorie options! Sometimes I just get myself a flavored water or make myself a chai tea latte!
Listen to music
Music can be incredibly healing. You can find lyrics and melodies that connect to the emotions you are experiencing, and also cheerful music that makes you want to get up, have fun and dance! Take the time to feel what you’re feeling, then you can also find music to help uplift your spirits.
Put on a show you really enjoy
Watching a show or movie you really enjoy is a way you can slow down and reduce stress. Cozy up, put on your comfy clothes, sit back and watch. My husband and I have a standing nightly routine of watching an hour or two of television together. It’s time we both really enjoy and it helps us unwind.
These are just a few of the many things you can do to uplift your spirits! What do you like to do to feel better on days like this?
