Confident Twosday: Mixing Stripes

I've had this outfit in my head since I bought my Old Navy pixie pants a while ago. I just didn't have the courage to wear it. Many people's fashion is influenced by the people they are around. Pattern mixing is not a 'thing' where I work. So it would be a reasonable assumption that I do not feel comfortable showing up in an outfit with bold patterns mixing.

Unless there is a mismatched day...like the day I wore this. I actually got quite a few compliments and now I feel so much better about trying out pattern mixing at work again!
Do you feel comfortable making bold fashion choices for work?

  1. Pattern mixing is not a thing where I live either. In fact, nothing is a thing here! We live in a very rural area and people wear pajamas to the grocery store! You can focus on being an example for others at your work place. I bet that pattern mixing starts to be a thing for your co workers now! You look gorgeous! Susan

  2. This looks great, especially with the pop of red from your heels! But I completely understand what you mean. Sometimes I have no doubts about an outfit until I think about what my coworkers might think about it, especially now that I'm working in a new school with new people. Fortunately there are a few other fashion-forward teachers in my building, so that helps me to be more brave!

  3. It definitely depends on the day for me, whether or not I feel like I can pull of pattern mixing. I think this looks great! And I really love the pants.

  4. Those are lovely printed pants! :) I think stripes go with everything too.

You see all kinds of things in the office here - the occasional suit and tie to someone wearing boardies and a ripped and stained tee. I just do my own thing and let others do theirs!

  22. That dainty daisy print of the pants is so cute! And I quite like how the top is made to be more than just another striped top with its structuring and crystal embellisments.

I am so glad you gave this a try, this outfit is so fun. I think having it in black and white patterns makes it a bit more easy for a work place where people don't mix patterns. I do pattern mix at work if I know I won't be in meetings with some senior management where they are much more conservative.

How neat that Casey has been blogging since 2008! I started in the beginning of 2009. I really love pattern mixing, but when I used to work I had to be professional about it. I think this is done nicely and isn't too over the top... so, it gets my work appropriate vote! I really love seeing different ways to style patterned pants!

  39. I love this mix! I think it's definitely professional since the colors are so great together. I have definitely made decisions about what to wear based on my work environment... I usually wait for a really laid back day to try something a little more out of the box!

  43. I totally know what you mean--academia is not exactly a place where people would "get" pattern mixing. You look so cute! I love those shoes.

  44. Pattern-mixing can be pretty darn scary! I think sticking with white and black as you did here is the way to go. Pops of red add the perfect finishing touch. I just love your new bag!

    ReplyDelete
  45. Your best outfit ever! I love mixing patterns as you know. The best and easiest way to do so is for them to both be in black+white and for one to be larger and the other. You nailed this and the addition of red on top is perfect. Those cherry red shoes are gorgeous. I tried 4 pairs of Pixie Pants. The one size that worked for me were too similar to another pair I own.
