Remixing a Dress

Dress-JCP (similar, similar, similar) | Cardigan-souvenir (similar, similar) | Shoes-TJ Maxx (similar, similar) | Bracelet-Groopdealz

When I buy clothing, I like to know I am going to get as much value from it as possible. That means as low a price as possible, a classic piece, good quality, and the ability to wear it multiple ways. With dresses sometimes that can be difficult. There is always the possibility of wearing a dress as a top with a skirt over it, as a skirt with a top over it, and as a dress, but that only works with some dresses. I like to pay more attention to the dress itself and see if I can switch it up with different color accessories, cardigans, blazers, or scarves.  This is a particularly good one for remixing because it goes with so many colors, the length would work with boots, and there isn't any top detail that would make layering a sweater over top look odd.
What do you look for when buying a dress to make sure it is versatile?

  2. You know that I am all about remixing summer dresses for fall! When I shop for dresses, they have to be able to be styled at least two ways. Great look today! Susan

  10. I love this dress! I absolutely agree that I look for dresses that will be remixable. Usually ones that I can wear with several different cardigans, and can change up the jewelry/belt/shoes to keep it interesting!

  12. This speaks to me so much as I love and always talk about remixing as well. I need to know pieces I purchase are reusable in many outfits. Your dress is a perfect example of this, and all outfits with it are so wearable and pretty. Have a lovely week!! XOXO, Elif

  15. Dresses can be hard to remix, but sometimes you don't have to get to carried away - it can be as simple as different shoes and accessories. I love that you are making this in to a three season dress!

  16. Now that I think about it, I guess I don't put much thought into how I'm going to remix a dress when I'm buying it. I just figure it will happen. .. and that's why I don't wear half of my dresses half of the year. But now I just try to come up with a couple ways to wear it throughout the year, regardless of the weather. You've done a great job remixing this dress so far!

  17. I love all of these looks! Something I've learned to look out for is the neckline--if it's a unique shape or has ruffles/an applique, I find that it's much harder to style. A simple neckline is much easier to pair with necklaces and blazers.

  21. Dresses are one of those items that i have trouble with. I have quite a few dresses but i don't really love them as a whole. There are some favorites but i tend to just get random ones while thrifting and then don't wear them.

The dress you're wearing here has a great pattern which looks easy to match!
