Winter Must Haves: Bold Coats and Knit Hats/Headbands

It's Week 4 of our Winter Must-Haves and Ada of Elegance and Mommyhood and I are featuring fun coats and knit head gear. It is incredibly appropriate for me especially because we inadvertently planned it for a week when predicted high temperatures for the week are well below zero. Like to the point where school is cancelled, the mayor cancelled all non-essential services, and the governor was considering a state-wide school cancellation. Holy cow. I live in southern Wisconsin, not the north pole.
So, obviously outwear is a HUGE must have for me. Every woman woman should have a nice neutral colored coat (black, grey, or tan) that is figure flattering and can be used for casual or formal occasions. But when you wear something like that every. single. day. it gets boring quickly. Printed and colorful coats are a great way to mix it up. They really can be part of your outfit. And don't forget to keep your ears toasty warm in a hat or knit headband!

Ada chose to feature a fun mustard colored coat. It goes really well with her cute polka dot pants and matching scarf. Her orange sweater adds another dimension of color to the outfit and she keeps her knit hat neutral. Although she looks prepared to brave even the cold in Wisconsin, I am sure she is glad she is in Albania! Make sure you check out Ada's post and don't forget about Week 1Week 2, and Week 3 of our Winter Must Haves!

I kept the colors of my coat neutral, but the print makes it fun. I especially like this coat because I can print mix, but because black and white are neutrals my coat still goes with most of my outfits and accessories. Knit hats and headbands are practical, but can be cute, too! I have a few berets, beanies, and a headband. The nice thing about headbands is they are wearable if you put your hair up or down. I find I have less hat head from them, too. Mine is accented with feathers and I added the rhinestones to glam it up even more.

  8. Your best outfit in our series so far. Love it. You nailed the Dressy Coat/Knit Hair Accessory Look. I liked it so much that I looked at every affiliate link lol.

I heard about all the snow that Mid-West is having and the super cold temps. In Michigan, they actually closed one of the two borders between Michigan and Canada and they declared a state of emergency mostly. That is crazy.

  15. I used to have a bright pink peacoat that I loved - it was the best to accessorize! Now, my winter coat is super poofy and deep purple...and it's the warmest thing ever! Perfect for frozen Minnesota - our governor cancelled school statewide for Monday, and most districts had yesterday off as well. Brrr!! I love your headband, Laura! I'm looking for something similar - with my short hair, I now get pretty goofy hat hair, but I think a warm knit headband would be perfect for keeping my ears warm but still letting my hair look decent :)

  16. Deep purple is such a pretty color for winter! I think it is really flattering to different skin tones. If I ever get a colored coat I would probably lean towards a purple. I bet a knit headband would look adorable on you! We had Monday and Tuesday off as well. A nice extended winter break! :)

  19. I got it as a gift with the feathers already on it, but I added the crystal button at the base of the feathers. I thought it needed a little extra bling! ;)
