Ooo! I have a great idea! Let’s add MORE carbs to bread. After trying a slice, I don’t even care (and I hate beer!). My friend gave me this recipe a couple years ago after she heard me complaining about how much I like beer bread, but didn’t want to pay for the mix (yes, I am cheap. And also lazy because I didn’t feel like ordering it). She said this recipe was very close in taste and texture to the mix and just as easy. I still question why it took me so long to finally try it out.
1. Mix 3c. sifted flour, 1/4c. sugar, 3t. baking powder, 1t. salt together in a bowl. You can also add any spices you would like at this point. I added about 1/2t. garlic powder and 1t. onion flakes.
2. Add a can of beer. Slowly. Because otherwise it might fizz over the bowl. 🙂
3. Mix and put in a greased loaf pan.
4. Pour 1/2c. melted butter over top. You can probably decrease this to 6T or maybe even to 4T, but I would have to make it again to see how it turns out. (An excuse to make it again? I think so.)
UPDATE: I did try it with 6T of butter and 4T, both turned out great. I think I will stick with 4T in the future to cut down on fat and calories.
5. Bake at 375F for 1 hour. Cool for at least 15 min if you can wait that long (I didn’t).
