I know, I know. I’m certainly not one that is trying to rush through Christmas. But I also don’t want to be scrambling last minute when New Year’s Eve comes around. So now that most things for Christmas are under control and purchased, I’m giving a bit of thought to the new year. Gone are the days of sequin tops and high heels. We are certainly not planning on any bar-hopping and haven’t gone out for years. We will be celebrating the big ball drop at home with the kids. Last year we let both stay up to ring in the new year in style…at home! If you have children, here are some fun ways to amp up the fun and plan a family friendly NYE party at home.
Set up a space for them
It’s so nice for children to feel more independent-even if they are fully supervised. We do that by having a child-friendly, kids-only space. Last year we had family friends stay over. Matt set up a tent in our basement and the older kids slept down there. They had privacy by zipping up the door and still felt secure because they were enclosed. It was adorable and very little effort.
Galaxy light machine

If you have the kids sleeping in the same area, a galaxy light machine is a great way to help them all drift off to sleep peacefully. Many have both light and sound capabilities. The lights provide a night light for any children that have some fears of the dark. The white noise sound helps them calm down and masks any unfamiliar noises that may keep them awake.
NYE Tattoos

Before the sleeping starts you need to have some fun entertainment. NYE tattoos are a great idea to help kids feel festive and in-the-moment. They will have fun applying them to each other and making designs or patterns.
Sustenance
Let’s turn snacking into a fun activity! I found these darling s’mores kits by Creekside. It’s easy enough to make s’mores inside with a fireplace, stove, or even in the microwave. Trust me, we’ve tried it all! These kits made it really easy. And the marshmallows are absolutely delicious. Santa has been nicely asked to provide some of the flavored marshmallows in the girls’ stockings this year. (haha!) The kits have everything you need for delicious s’mores. The kids will love it!
Entertainment

If you are looking for some family-friendly games, What do you Meme? is fabulous! My oldest is starting to get into social media and that includes memes and gifs more and more. This is a great game to get the entire family involved while waiting for the new year to arrive.
Party Crackers

How to celebrate the ball drop appropriately? Party crackers are fun and the kids love the paper crowns inside and little prizes inside. And there is less to pick up afterwards than confetti and streamers. It’s a win-win!
New Year’s Breakfast

Don’t forget about the next morning! My children love to help and experiment in the kitchen. What about a Galaxy Donut Making Kit? Either an adult can help them create breakfast magic or if your children are old enough you can leave it up to them. Either way, there are sure to be some fun memories made and a delicious breakfast prepared.
