As I mentioned in my Life Lately post earlier this week, I love home updates! I just can’t seem to stop thinking of ways to improve on the look of our home. There is always a list of things I want to do. When we first moved into our dream home about 2 1/2 years ago I shared a home tour post once we were settled. Since then we have made some house updates and I’m excited to share them today!
Master Bedroom

Oh what a difference paint can make! We had these walls painted a cream and did the ceiling in a dark navy. Of course I had to replace the brass fan with one with a chandelier, too. Every time I look at it, I smile!

Foyer and Upstairs Landing
I’m so glad we had this done! I’ve been wanting wainscoting for years and we were able to make the stairway wall into a feature wall. It’s more than I ever thought it could be and I’m so happy with the result! The company we used were amazing to work with and had wonderful ideas.

Check out that brass chandelier! Crazy, right? What a difference! It’s so much lighter, brighter, and more show-stopping! And I’m really happy with the navy ceiling and how the chandelier pops against it!

Dining Room
I’m obsessed with our dining room. I know they are falling out of style, but I really hope to use ours a lot. The lighter wall color really makes the ceiling and floor more noticeable and I love how the wainscot elevates the room even more. Plus, wainscoting isn’t just decorative – it also helps protect your kitchen and dining room walls from scuffs, stains, and everyday wear, making it both a stylish and practical addition. If wainscoting isn’t for you, then tiles will also be a great and protective option. Just make sure to read up on tile patterns to choose what is right for your kitchen.

Basement Bar

This was the part of the house updates we did ourselves. The wall facing the stairway as you walk downstairs to the basement just had some Guinness posters. Clearly it needed a little extra something. And that is where Photowall came in! Photowall is a company that makes wall murals, wall papers, prints, and posters. They contacted me and asked if I wanted to choose one of their products to try out. Their gorgeous wallpapers really jumped out at me, but I couldn’t figure out where a wallpaper wall would look good. And where it would be fairly easy to apply since we are complete novices! This wall seemed so blank and just plain blah. We thought this sophisticated pattern that echos the wainscot we had put in upstairs was just perfect. I loved the deep, masculine charcoal green color and thought it would really complement the wood bar and the Guinness theme we had going on.
The wallpaper was very easy to order and I love the website’s ability to specifically select how it will look on your wall. They print it based on your measurements so there is less waste! We were able to apply it in a morning, and all things considered it was fairly straightforward. The wallpaper kid from Photowall was so useful and I think the video and directions helped, too. The quality of the wallpaper was immediately apparent. It is so beautiful and we are really pleased with the result!
