I love to create educational opportunities as often as possible for my oldest daughter as she gets ready to begin kindergarten next fall. Creating those opportunities for her to be exposed to new experiences, vocabulary, literacy, and simple math means she will be so much more prepared when she starts school. And I want her to have fun while doing it! Learning should be fun, especially at her age. So when we got home after shopping I got to thinking and created two activities for her to do during snack time that would help target some skills she needs and let her have fun while doing it. I’ve included the downloadable worksheets so you can use them with your children, too!

Pattern Play

The first activity that I created targets pattern making. Children need to learn to recognize, complete, and create patterns on their own. The Goldfish crackers Colors are great for recognizing and making patterns! You can download the worksheet below and print it off for your children. Once they are done with the patterns, they can have fun eating their delicious snack! I recommend laminating them or placing them in a plastic sleeve to protect the worksheets so you can use them time and time again!

Goldfish Cracker Graphing

Simple bar graphs are a wonderful way to practice sorting, counting, comparing, using math vocabulary, and even fine motor skills when coloring in the bar graph. Just fill a small cup or bowl with Goldfish crackers Colors and have your children sort them into groups according to their color. Then they can practice counting and color in the corresponding amount of boxes for each group. Afterwards, have them talk about their graph using math vocabulary words like “equal to,” “more/less than,” “most,” “least,” etc. This targets so many skills and is such a fun activity for kids to do! The best part is every snack time will create a different graph so you can do this time and time again.
