When
the weather is between seasons, finding the right outfit gets a whole lot
tougher. You could step outside into glorious sunshine and then within 10
minutes be absolutely soaking wet from a sudden downpour. And this isn’t even
considering the sudden gusts of wind or puddles thrown up by passing buses. If
you live in the Midwest, a late spring snow shower isn't out of the question
either!
As
spring approaches, the weather is certainly doing its best to put us all off
our games. But luckily, there are a few go-to items that work at any time of
the year to combine fashion sense with meteorological madness.
Layering
is key to staying comfortable with the ever-changing temperatures of spring.
That includes jackets, vests, blazers, and cardigans. A lightweight layer over
top can add warmth and easily be removed if needed while complementing any
look; jeans are diversified so that no matter what you are looking for or where
you are going, there is a pair that will suit your needs perfectly; scarves are
saving us all from the cold and with a range wide enough to incorporate thickly
knitted almost-blankets to sweet silk scarves, you can go right through to
summer and never feel a chill.
With
the right combination of these three basic items, you can go right the way
through the season in comfort and still look amazing. Mixing and matching these
three items can give you endless outfit potential for this transitional time
between seasons.

Add a Lightweight Layer
The
jacket is quite possibly the best layer for this time of year! Lightweight,
easy to throw on over jeans, a skirt, pants - whatever! - and always just right
in the spring and autumn. And if you are lucky to have a range of different
jackets, you can mix and match ‘til your heart's content all the way through
the season.
A leather jacket is a particularly good
investment for any woman. It is warm in the spring when there is still a chance
of frost and can be waterproof as well. Go for a classic black leather jacket
with zipped up pockets and a fitted look to emphasize your waist. A black
leather jacket can add an edgy vibe to a range of outfits. Try layering it over a plaid shirt or a floaty dress
to get a completely different vibe every time.
The
denim jacket is also a great investment. It's a classic piece that you will
wear time and time again. Try a double denim look if you are feeling
adventurous. With all the cute embroidery and embellishments on trend, double
denim is a fun way to try it out The key is to try mixing slightly different
styles of denim so that you aren’t completely matchy-matchy. Try white jeans
with a blue jacket or mix dark and light blues: make this look your own.
Other
layers like a thick and cozy cardigan, chic blazer, or variety of vests are also great options for
layering this time of year.
A Great Fitting Pair of
Jeans
Since
their invention, it seems that jeans have been a wardrobe staple. We’ve seen everything from long, wide leg
jeans to tight skinny jeans, embroidery flowers to crystal embellishments and
pretty much everything in between. What is so great about jeans right now is
that whatever you like goes. Given that women all have quite different body
shapes and sizes, it is a real relief to see so many different cuts and fits
available. No matter who you are or what you like, there is a pair of jeans for
you.
In
the cooler in between months of spring and autumn, jeans are an indispensable
part of your wardrobe, and just like your jackets and layers, a small
collection of jeans will give you plenty of different match up options.
Weekends are made for mom style or boyfriend jeans for comfort but a pair of
black skinny jeans can be teamed up with a embellished blouse and big accessories
for a night on the town. Just as you have your classic LBD, you should
definitely invest in some day to night jeans that fit and flatter your figure.
Add a Scarf for Color
and Warmth
The
problem with changeable weather is that you never quite get your temperature
right. As you walk, you’ll get warmer but standing around for any amount of
time will likely induce shivers. The solution is super simple: wear a scarf.
The
scope for scarf wearing is going the same way as jeans this year, from delicate silk squares to what looks like a bright
green car blanket shown by Celine. It means that there is always a
scarf for whatever weather you come across. If you are a particularly chilly
person like I am, try wrapping a long scarf several times around your neck for
the most warmth. Faux fur is also in right now and is really warm for those of
us who want an extra layer. I just got a black faux fur scarf that I love for under $20!
If
big knits aren’t your thing, borrow some of your grandma’s silk scarves and tie
them loosely around your neck or in a choker style. This year, silk scarves are
being worn in all kinds of ways so if you are feeling warm, use it as a belt
around your jeans or dress for a vibrant pop of color or tie it
around your handbag strap.

Whatever
your plans are for this season’s must-have fashion items, jackets, jeans and
scarves will all continue to be classic wardrobe staples for your closet,
especially during this transitional weather. The key is to having a variety of
each. This way you will be able to mix and match from just a few items but
create several completely different looks.
As
the weather turns and the cold thaws, layers are the best way - if not the only
way - to stay the right temperature and look amazing too!

such a cute outfit! I do miss some of the change of seasons. Here we have hot weather 90 percent of the year and maybe a month of cold.
ReplyDeleteThese are great tips! While I tend to switch things up a bit with jackets and cardigans over winter, I always have my jeans and scarves on frequent rotation - they are must-haves for me! :)
ReplyDeleteHope you had a good week and you have a nice weekend ahead of you :) We are getting a lot of rain at the moment which is a welcome change after the heatwaves, haha! Still so humid though, ugh!

It can be so hard to dress in between seasons when the weather is so up and down. I need to get a new leather jacket and vests are one of my favorites for those tricky days. Sierra~Beautifully Candid

I love this gorgeous layered look. I totally agree that layers are essential this time of year--the weather here is all over the place! Kids had 3 (!) snow/ice days this week and then it's supposed to be 50 degrees this weekend.

I agree with all of your tips. I am a huge believer (lol) and wearer of scarves and I have them in a variety of sizes, shapes, materials, lengths, styles, colors, prints - you name it. I also agree that great-fitting jeans, a black leather jacket and a good denim jacket are closet musts! Love this cozy outfit of yours. I own very similar OTK boots and you will see them styled on the blog, soon. Your scarf is quite pretty!
ReplyDeleteThanks for linking up with me on Thursday Moda. Also, starting next Sunday, I will be having a monthly linkup the first Sunday of each month so welcome by and join it. It will be awesome! Have a Happy Sunday! Ada. =)
These are great tips. I can't wait to btibrout my leathet jacket for spring. I am also a fan on that denim on denim look. Another staple for me continue to be boots as it's still to cold/wet for flats, so a variety of booties get me through from November- April.

You have such lovely layers here dear. I love your scarf, looks so chic and really cozy too. And yes, you just can't go wrong with OTK boots.
