How to Shine on NYE and Not Freeze!

Gone are the days when I would go out with my husband in a tiny top in the middle of winter and freeze all night long just to look good. I still want to look good, but those tiny 'going out' tops have been cleared out from my closet for years. So I have learned some ways to dress for a night out in cold temps while looking cute and staying warm. I put together 2 outfits for inspiration today that have a healthy dose of sparkle and shine, but with layers and coverage so you don't freeze (too much anyway)!

sequined skirt with black turtleneck and OTK boots
Turtleneck (savesplurge) | Skirt-Zara via thredUP (splurge, similar) | Boots (savesimilar, splurge) | Clutch (save, splurge) | Earrings (save, splurge) | Lipstick

A sequined mini skirt is a perfect option for NYE. But I added fleece tights underneath instead of bare legs. A black turtleneck not only lets that sequined miniskirt take centerstage, but also helps keep you warm. And you can even add a cami or lightweight long sleeved tee underneath. To amp up the warmth even more, you can wear OTK boots. I have a couple suede pairs and not only are they cute, they are really warm!

black sequined leggings with black blazer, grey blouse, red bag,
Top (savesplurge) | Blazer-Express (exactsavesplurge) | Pants (savesplurge) | Heels (savesplurge) | Bag (savesplurge) | Earrings | Lipstick

Instead of a skirt, sequined leggings are really trending lately. They are typically lined making them a little warmer than other leggings. And you can layer your tops to help stay warm. I have a thin camisole on under my silk blouse and then a blazer on top. A blazer can be warmer than a cardigan because it is lined and is a dressier option when headed out for the night.

Hope you all have a warm, wonderful, and safe New Year's Eve and New Year!

  1. Oh these are great outfit ideas for a cold NYE! I particularly love that sequin skirt, so cute :) I'm definitely going to be spending NYE in my pyjamas, if I even make it to midnight without falling asleep, haha!

Hope you had a wonderful Christmas and are having a great week! It's hard to believe there are just a few days left in 2017! A happy new year to you.

  3. This is how I know I've gotten old, Laura. Because this is exactly how I dress now. Last year I saw a young girl with bare legs out and about, yet it was only 30 degrees outside. And I remember those days!! Now, I'm very glad that either I'm smarter or let's just say, warmer!! Ha ha!!
Both outfits are fabulous!! I have a pair of sequin shorts that I should wear soon (with fur lined tights)

  4. WOW WOW WOW!!! You had a baby when???? Good heavens, you look amazing. AH-MAZING. Both of these outfits are so perfect. I haven't jumped on the big, tall OTK boots trend yet but if I could look like this in mine, I would be on board tomorrow. The outfits are festive but practical in that they are warm!! Yay, YOU! Happy new year, baby girl.

  13. LOL, yes, I could have written the first few sentences of this post myself. My top priority when going out at night is to NOT be cold. Both of your outfits are perfect! Fun and very appropriate for date night but without sacrificing comfort!
