I've mentioned before that my work is pretty casual. When you are working with young children sometimes sitting on the floor with them, working with paint and glue, or outside with recess or car duty, pants just seem to work better. But with all that said, I still like to pull out my dresses and skirts. Otherwise when would they get worn? And when I have meetings with parents, I like to look and feel professional. So I try to compromise when I get dressed. I wear a skirt or dress, but dress it down with a more casual top or shoes. Typically that means wearing riding boots or in the summer, flats. This is the fourth time I've worn this skirt on the blog and the third time I've worn it with riding boots. You can see it with a buffalo plaid top here or with a blue sweater and moto jacket here

  1. This is a fabulous way to wear a pencil skirt more casually. As a stay at home mom, I don't have occasion to get very dressed up often, but I do love a good pencil skirt. I like to wear them more in the spring and summer with a tee or tank top and flats or even sneakers.

I need to wear my riding boots before spring really hits---I think I got too excited about my OTK boots and my riding boots are feeling very left out!

  29. For some reason I never think to wear riding boots with pencil skirts...probably because I rarely wear pencil skirts. Haha. To me they feel too dress so I should definitely try this combination!

  30. I love how you dressed down a classic black pencil skirt like this. It is still quite dressy and posh. Everyone needs an olive utility shirt, too. =)

  39. I LOVE this top on you! Dressing down is a subject we don't talk about much; usually we are talking about dressing UP styles! I think you nailed it! I like to add fun tights or a wedge instead of a heel. Also, a jean jacket instantly casual-izes (is that word? lol it is now) any outfit!
