One thing of the many things I love about where I work is the range of acceptable work wear. We can wear jeans, leggings (not as pants of course), slacks, skirts, and dresses and it is all considered to be the norm. It's really nice because you can dress down if you have a certain activity you might be sitting on the floor for or a meeting that you need to look a little more professional and not get any side eye for either outfit. I'll be honest, there are times I like to be a little more dressy for no reason at all!

This week I am a part of some interviews for a speech pathologist for our district so I went a little more dressy. I've never had the opportunity before so I erred on the side of more formal than casual. My mom always said you will look less out of place in a slightly more formal outfit than you do in a too casual one. I wasn't sure what to wear so pulled out my favorite black pencil skirt. The perfect fit always gives me an extra boost of confidence which is nice even if I am not the one being interviewed!
What is your work place attire? Do you have a go-to item for work?

  3. Like you, one of my favorite things about working in the school that I do is the versatility in what I can wear to work. Love this super professional look! I did a more professional look on the blog last summer when I was sitting in on interviews for a school psychologist. :)

  9. I think dressing up is better than to risk looking too casual, too. When I was working, we had a pretty laid back business casual atmosphere, but we had to have our shoulders covered and close-toed shoes. We did have a casual Friday, too where we could where jeans. My husbands work is so laid back, they can wear shorts... but, he thinks that is too casual and wears jeans at least. I love that top, I can't believe all of the amazing items you find on thredUP! I am about to clean out my closet and send a bag over to them. :)

  10. You look gorgeous and professional! I love the range of clothes we can wear too. It allows me to express my mood and personality! Of course a few teachers take it a bit too far and look like they just crawled out of bed in sweats. ;)

  50. Yay, you, for wearing a dress and a skirt in one week. Love to dress up myself but pretty impractical working in an elementary school. The faculty and staff look at me sideways when I wear heels!! You look crisp and business-like yet still feminine. And what a bargain these pieces are.
