Why Do You Thrift?

As a blogger, I have the opportunity to evaluate what types of clothing I wear, how often I wear it, and where it comes from more than most people. When you are taking outfit photos and finding 'similar' items for posts you notice trends. I like that I have the opportunity to see where my frequently worn items are from and what types of pieces I wear most. I noticed almost this entire outfit is thrifted which says a lot about my shopping habits. I know that thrifting is good for the environment, but truthfully that positive point is really secondary to my true drive to continue thrifting. I like thrifting because you can get quality for less. The sweater, leather pants, and pumps have all been worn multiple times by me. They were in really great shape when I got them and still are.

I have read other posts about thrifting tips and seen others advise you shouldn't count on getting basic items while thrifting, but I think that is a fallacy. This sweater and these leather pants are two items I consider to be versatile, classic pieces that won't be going out of style anytime soon. With clothing sites like thredUP ($10 off code here), Poshmark, and many other online secondhand sites, getting quality, brand name, basic items at a great price is becoming a reality. Another point I really like is that I don't worry so much if something happens to them. These are not pieces that hide in the back of my closet because I am scared to wear them. With thrifting you get a good price so it isn't quite as painful when something gets stained, torn, or ruined in another way.

  6. You are killing it in those pants! And those shoes are super cute! I have a hard time thrifting because I have a weird "thing" about wearing clothes that other people have worn. Hand me downs from friends are fine but I can't do clothes from strangers. I know it's weird and I've tried to talk myself out of it, but it's just not my thing I guess!

  7. That's one reason exactly why I love a good deal---I don't worry about them as much.
I love thrifting and great sales but I will be the devil's advocate in saying sometimes I think I don't always take care of these clothing items as much because they were less expensive. Not that this realization will slow me down in searching out the deals---and maybe this fact creates less stress.
(Another advantage of thrifted shoes is there's usually less break-in time!!)

  8. You are really good at finding good thrifty items... I wish I was better, but I think I lack some of the patience for it. I do like sites like thredUP though, where you can do searches, etc. instead of digging through racks of clothes!

  9. I agree...at least where I live, we have lots of well-stocked thrift stores and I can always find great basic and classic pieces. Yes, I have to spend time hunting, but it can be so worth it! Pinned this great outfit to my Stylish Thrift Store Finds board. Thanks!

  11. I haven't gone thrifting in a long time. We have a reuse center I like to check out here and there and get free clothes for there. I plan on doing my thrifting when I moved back to the states in a few months.
