Striped Vest and Polka Dot Scarf

When I was putting this outfit together, I was initially nervous about mixing 3 different patterns together. But once it was on, I loved it! I think it helps that my outfit is in plain, neutral colors so the patterns aren't competing with one another too much. The plaid is farther away from the stripes and polka dots, too. When pattern mixing I've found that the small doses in accessories make it so much easier to pattern mix and less overwhelming (or nerve wracking, depending on how you look at it)!

  9. You're totally right about the mixing also because from far away that scarf looks almost plain & the shoes are dark enough to blend!!! Nice! jodie

  10. great mix, and I so agree small patterns with small patterns works best

  11. First of all the patterns on top are one tiny, the other larger and they are both in black+white, plus polka dots and stripes go so well together, like perfect! Secondly, the plaid flats are far away from the patterns on top so 3 patterns work. I mixed 3 types of florals IRL today. BTW love those jeans and how they fit you. And every time you wear that gorgeous striped vest - I want it! LOL

I love when you style your striped vest, because I have one! Pattern mixing is the best!

  13. I would never have thought that mixing three patterns like this could work, but you're right - the subdued colors and varying sizes help keep the look subtle.

  14. I agree, neutrals don't compete with each others, they complement instead.

  17. I love this look! I really meant to layer with my vests more this spring, but it's pretty much summer already these days. I'll have to pin this for fall!

  30. The pattern-mixing is so subtle, I couldn't even find the third pattern until I got a closer look at your shoes in the last picture! The vest is the main pattern but since the polka dots of your scarf are so small and your flats are far enough away from the first two, it looks perfect. Makes me wish I had that vest!

  31. I think your pattern mixing is so subtle, it works well! :)

The scarf is really nice - I love how cosy it looks, and the little polka dots are adorable :)

  32. I'm not huge into pattern-mixing, but this is so wonderful, Laura! I like that it's all so subtle and in the same color scheme. Also...I really want a pair of light wash distressed jeans like this. This outfit is convincing me! :)
