Gold Sweater and Vest

How do you all organize your clothes? I love our house, especially the living areas, but the bedrooms and closets are 1960s small. We have 3 bedrooms and currently I have the entire 'master bedroom' closet (if you can call it a master bedroom). It's just standard size so I have to make the most of my storage. My husband has all his clothes in the guest room. It was rough enough clearing out the closet in Claire's room before she was born. I am nervous about what will happen when we decide to add another little one to our family and have no guest room!
With all this in mind, I've really been trying to streamline my closet slowly. Heidi over at Literate and Stylish (check out her Feb. post here) goes by the one piece in, one piece out mentality. At the very least I do that. I'm not picky about which pieces go though as long as it is one for one. But if I see things that need to go I also get rid of them as needed. And their hangers. That's really been the trick for me because if there aren't hangers then there is no room. As long as I ignore the fact I just moved my extra hangers to the coat closet.

So how do you make sure there is room when you buy clothes?
See how else I've worn this sweater here!

  1. That gold top is so nice with the zips on your vest! :)

I had to do a slow and steady wardrobe clearout to be able to downsize from an entire wardrobe room to sharing the master bedroom wardrobe with hubby and putting everything else under the bed. I did manage to get half of the wardrobe in the study, so it's not too bad! I feel if I could get better at editing down my closet, organisation would be easier!

  3. Too funny is my old place. It was oppiste for me and hubby. He had the master and had the guest bedroom closet. I have a lot of my clothes in dresser drawer.

  4. I briefly attempted one piece in, one piece out, but it didn't stick. Though I've realized I need more space and more things simply must go.

Love this gold sweater and your great vest!

  8. The jeans are such a great fit on you. I love the sparkle against the grey/black.
Yes, please help as I am trying to pare my closet down too. I need all the organization I can get to make better use of what I have.

  9. Thank you so much Shon! Isn't it hard to reduce the amount of clothes you have?! Because you are always buying new things (or at least I am!) so I feel like you have to work even harder to pare everything down. Good luck with all your organization!

  10. I LOVE this outfit, Laura! One of my absolute favorites of yours, honestly! The gold and black look so sharp and striking against each other, and I love how the sparkly sweater and more "rugged" vest play off each other. Those jeans look awesome on you as well!

  12. We have the same situation in our house! Our house was built in the 1950s, so the bedroom closets are TINY. I, too, have possession of the entire "master" bedroom closet, and my husband uses the one in the guest bedroom. I must admit that my closet is pretty packed to the brim right now. I'm considering hauling some of the winter stuff to the attic...

  13. Yes it is sad, I too have the entire master closet and then some. My HM has to have the next rooms closet. Then I am also taking over the guest / spare room closet now days. After my surgery and while waiting for chemo I am going to do a purge and get rid of some of my thrift finds to make room for more. lol

oh see this post of mine for what we did to make over the master closet for me in the first place:
