As I have been working my closet and focusing remixing, buying versatile pieces, and rethinking how to pair items together, I have come to realize I have a few favorites. I hesitate to call them basics, although some may be. Mostly they are extremely versatile and wearable pieces. I reach for them time and time again and constantly am inspired with how to change them up and wear them different ways. I decided to share what I find to be my top 5 wardrobe workhorses. I wish I had these pieces in my closet years ago! Hopefully you can learn from my mistakes and add them to your closet if you haven’t already!
1. Chambray
This should be obvious. I can’t go into how many ways you can wear this amazing top. Seriously it can do no wrong. I have seen so many remixing pieces featuring chambray there is certainly no lack of ways to wear it. I’ve worn mine here, here, here, here, here, here, and here (Whew! See what I mean about a workhorse?!)
2. Skinny Jeans
I love a good skinny jean. If I had to pick one, I would go with a dark rinse. They look less casual and can be dressed up or down more easily. Skinny jeans can be worn with almost any kind of shoe and all of mine have some stretch so they are very comfortable to wear! I even cuff mine in the spring and summer to make them more versatile as the weather gets warmer. Here are a few of my looks with skinny jeans: here, here, here, here, here, and here.
3. Cognac Boots
Of all my footwear these are worn, by far, the most. I made sure I got a pair with a classic style and good quality leather so I know they will last for a while. Cognac really goes well with all colors and you can wear boots with skirts, dresses, or those skinny jeans! See how I’ve worn mine here, here, here, here, and here.
4. Striped Dress
I totally scored with my striped dress. It was $12 when I bought it, but I have worn it so many different ways, I probably would have paid a lot more! A black and white striped dress is perfect for pattern mixing, goes with any color you can think of, and you can layer under or over it. Have I convinced you yet? Check out my striped dress styled here, here, here, here, and here.
5. Beige Cardigan
If I had to choose one cardigan to own, it would be my beige cardigan. Beige is the perfect neutral color. I chose a boyfriend style. I really like the length and weight of mine. It is a perfect layer over anything for a little extra warmth. Worn here, here, here, andhere.
What didn’t make the list? I did debate adding my burgundy pants, puffer vest, and long sleeve tissue tees (really light weight tees perfect for wearing underneath anything), but 5 is such a nicer number than 8 and I couldn’t think of 2 more to make it 10!
