Twofer Tuesday: Red Accents

I wore this to church a little while ago. Since it was the holiday season my red tights and red plaid were definitely appropriate. Some may say they were practically required. I always like skirts or dresses I can wear with boots in the winter because they really give added warmth. Many people give up on wearing skirts and dresses in the winter due to the cold. With tights, tall boots (maybe even extra socks), and enough layers on top I sometimes even find myself warmer than just wearing pants!

A turtleneck and jeans is not anything special. I realize this. But I still really like this outfit and have worn it (or a very similar version) quite a few times. There was someone I saw wearing something very similar a few years ago at a holiday party and I just loved how the red heels popped. She looked so chic with such simple clothing items. So of course I copied her and bought a pair of red heels for myself. And no matter how many times people quip, "There's no place like home," when I wear them I vow not to care.  Accessories and heels can really elevate a simple outfit.

  1. I love the red tights!! In fact, I love all colored and patterned tights! And I agree that you can stay warm in a dress with layers! It is just brutally cold here! I also love how you buttoned the cardigan! Cute! Susan

  4. I get the "Dorothy" comments about my red heels, too, but I just love them! And I love your red tights--I have plenty of colors of tights, but not red!

  5. I love both outfits so much. Simple, elegant and sleek. Red is my favorite color. You can't go wrong with a black turtleneck sweater & red pumps either. =)

  11. Okay, that last outfit is too perfect. I love those jeans on you, and I think there's something so timeless and classy about a black turtleneck with some perfectly-fitting jeans. You nailed it, Laura! :)

  12. Thank you Brynn! It's silly, but I was a little nervous people would think it is too simple of an outfit for a 'fashion' blog. I like the outfit though so I posted it anyway. :)

  13. I love the red plaid paired with your gray sweater and necklace. Looks very festive! And I must admit, I'm one of those girls who never wear skirts in the winter for fear of being cold. I might need to try it now! Thanks for linking up with Love Your Look!

  14. With a tights and skirt it is almost like 2 layers instead of just 1 with pants. I'd never wear a skirt without tights (and maybe a slip for another layer) in winter though! Brrr! :)
